Transferring your design: Learn how to transfer your chosen design onto the bisque-fired ceramic surface, setting the stage for your painting
Fa Hua Cai techniques
Clay slip control: Practice using a squeeze bottle to create raised, three-dimensional outlines with clay slip
Precise patterns: Master the art of controlling pressure and line thickness to craft intricate designs
Painting techniques
Floating wash technique: Learn the "floating wash" technique to evenly fill the outlined areas with Qing Hua (cobalt mineral pigment). This lays the perfect foundation for the advanced class where you’ll graduate to working with vibrant colours.
Creating depth and contrast: Discover how to use light and dark variations to add depth and visual interest to your composition
What to expect
Spraying and firing: Your piece will be sprayed with a clear glaze and high-fired.
Completion time: Please allow up to 3 weeks for your finished piece to be ready for collection. If it's been longer than 3 weeks, please contact us.
Shipping: We can also ship your finished pieces to you for an additional fee.
Firing risks:
We cannot compensate for broken pieces.
Cracks, breakage, or less-than-ideal results can occur due to clay nature, firing process, or creator skill.
We cannot guarantee perfect results.
Open studio discount: If your piece breaks and you'd like to try again, we'll offer a 20% discount on a future open studio class.
Dress code: Wear clothing and shoes you don't mind getting stained with Qing Hua pigment.
Aprons: We provide aprons, but you're welcome to bring your own.
Hair: Please tie back long hair.
